Hicks

I went to Hicks Library today. Even though I got some serious writing done, I could not find many books on my topic because of how recent my topic is. I spent most of my time on the computer finding more resources. Of the books I did find, they were about space exploration in reference to our past and not present. However, it may be a good idea to also write about the past in my essay.

Logic Problems?

A button that says Obama or McCain says only one thing: I’m for this guy and you should be, too. It doesn’t advance democracy; it advances a party.

Even though I might agree, this is a fallacy. The writer is stating a an either/or argument. Why can't I be advancing democracy and party politics at the same time? The writer states that I can do only one thing at a time.

Remediation

We could take the show MXC which in itself is a remediation, and we change the audio to what we want to say. We would take a YouTube video of the show and download it. Then through some audio/video program we would delete the original audio and record our own. We would want to re-create the humorous theme that the original remediation show had created.

Group Picture Project

My partner's essay: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/18/world/middleeast/18yemen.html?ref=todayspaper

My essay: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/18/sports/football/18bands.html

The pictures in my partner's essay are moving. They refer to sympathy that the reader may feel about the death of 10 people. They show the reader a the effects of ciaos that ensues after a bombing. However, if one was to look deeper into the picture there is a lot for a reader to take from them. The small details of culture, place, and people as a whole can be taken from the photo. You see a man who is a worker and other police officers walking normally in the background not scared of the bombing mostly because they are probably used to it. The police carry guns out front who no regard to safety while they walk around after the bombing with not cover of protection. Soldiers are standing in a little out post area that is falling apart. The roof is tilted sideways and from the look of sustained some damage. The soldiers in the outpost do not even have any guns for weapons to protect themselves. Finally, the area is beat up and trashed. It has been that way for awhile. The details are endless for a photo of this caliber.

My essay was more of a less political topic as an essay. It shows images of top NFL athletes wearing sweat bands around there arms as a fasion statement. I do believe that NFL athletes sometimes do work to hard to look "cool." I do believe kids then believe that look cool is important instead of the love the game.

YouTube Video: Penn and Teller defining our 1st Amendment rights

This YouTube video is taken from Penn and Teller's television show, "Penn & Teller: Bullshit!" They say that we all posses a 1st amendment right that grants everyone and anyone the right to say or do whatever they want. This is shown through Penn and Teller words and action. The rely on heavy imagery to display what they are trying to say. For example, the removal of the clothing, chairs, and other dining items to show that if you want to make change then you should do it. Penn and teller are telling us that it is not the government job to regulate and control our free speech writes. However, Penn and Teller argument has some weakness to it. We do live a place where anybody can say anything they want to. Some people are to weak to stand up. Who will stand up for the weak and the forgotten? That is the problem with the idea that everybody can speak. Sometimes there are people who cannot and the government sometimes needs to help these people.
